iPhone Updated with Keyboard driver

Apple’s refusal to add a netbook to its range has left many attempting to use the iPhone or iPod touch as a rough equivalent, but ease of text entry continues to frustrate. Happily, where Apple fall short the developer community delivers, with the simply-named iPhone Bluetooth Keyboard Driver. Soon to appear in the Cydia Store, v.1 of the driver allows you to wirelessly connect a Bluetooth keyboard to the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS or iPod touch.

It’s not a perfect solution: it requires that the device be jailbroken first, and iPhone 2G support is unclear at present. You’ll also need an iPod touch with Bluetooth, too, so that counts out the first-gen model. The software implementation isn’t quite perfect either; v.10 lacks support for cut/copy/paste, you can’t highlight text by holding down shift and using the cursor keys, the CapsLock button won’t work and Apple’s own wireless keyboard won’t quick auto-connect.

Nonetheless, this is a huge step forward for turning the iPhone or iPod touch into a mobile workstation, and those who enter large amounts of text may find the combination of the App Store and this new driver irresistible. No word on when exactly it will enter the Cydia Store.

Solar Eclipse in India on Jan 15th

Annular solar eclipse is expected on January 15th 2010. Since we are nearing solar eclipse there are lots of news and anticipations are arising every where. Solar eclipse is nothing but the sun and moon coincide with each other and they both lie at the same line till certain point of time. Moon shadow is smaller when compared to sun that looks like moon shadow is inside the sun, which appears like a ‘Ring of fire’.

Common people can get the clear vision of ‘Ring of fire’ at Dhanushkodi near Rameshweram in Tamil Nadu, which is located at the southern tip of India. The people of this area are lucky enough to see the clear vision of 2010 solar eclipse. dhanushkodi people can watch it 10 minutes and 30 seconds duration. However, Delhi people are also partially lucky enough as they can also watch part of 2010 solar eclipse or ‘Rinf of fire’.

Agenda of solar eclipse in India:

The solar eclipse on January 15th 2010 will start around 11:16 am IST. Over the Indian Ocean the solar eclipse will last for eleven minutes and ten seconds and this will be the millennium’s (i.e. 2001 to 3000) longest solar eclipse. In India, the solar eclipse will last between 11 am and 13.15 pm. It will start from south part of Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu then it moves towards Rameshwaram and Dhanushkodi. Right from Dhanushkodi the eclipse will precede its tour to Kerala and accomplish at Mizorem in northeast.

In Delhi, people can watch between 11.53 A.M and 15.11P.M. Delhi public people can watch this solar eclipse of 2010 at the Amateur Astronomers Association and Nehru Planetarium. However, it is advisable not to watch solar eclipse with direct eyes.

2010 Solar eclipse in other countries:

In Africa, Solar eclipse will begin at 10.44a.m that travels towards Chad, Central African Republic and continues its travel through the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Kenya, and Somalia and finally that will reach Indian Ocean.

In Asia, the central path of moon shadow passes through south India, Bangladesh, Myanmar and China.

Luminous Blue Variables (LBV)

Luminous Blue Variables (LBVs) are a rare class of extremely massive stars that teeter on the very edge of being stable. The most famous of this class of stars is the well studied Eta Carinae. Like many other LBVs, Eta Carinae is shrouded in a nebula of its own making. The instability of the star causes it to throw off large amounts of mass even during its brief main sequence lifetime. What makes these stars so unstable is an open question which has been difficult to answer do the the paucity of known LBVs. Given that the initial mass function predicts that such massive stars should be rare, this is not surprising, but identifying these stars is often made even more difficult due to the reddening caused by their nebulae.

However, an international team working from Russia and South Africa proposes that the nebula itself may be able to help identify potential candidates of LBVs.

A quaint little hill train chugs up into the Shivalik foothills, over dramatic loops and high arched bridges to the hill resort of Shimla (2130 m) - the capital of the mountain state of Himachal.

Shimla was one a string of hill stations that the British established to escape from the scorching heat of the plains. The 12 km, crescentshaped ridge on which it is located was first occupied by the British troops, in the early part of the 19th century, during the Anglo-Gurkha War.

The little village of Shymala, a retreat for British officers, soon grew to become the glamorous summer capital of the British, in India.

Places to see:

The Mall: All visitors to Shimla inevitably walk down the Mall, the main promenade that runs along the top of the ridge-a busy shopping area with old colonial buildings.

Viceregal lodge : Housed in the Gothic splendour of the Viceregal Lodge is the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies

Himachal State Museum : Very close to the Institute, in a colonial building set in spacious lawns, is the museum. It has collections of Pahariminiatures, stone sculpture, local handicrafts, textiles and embroidery.

Jakhoo Hill : Hill, Shiml's highest point, is rewarding for there are superb views of the town and its surroundings. At the top is an old Hanuman temple.(2Km).

Glen : A pretty picnic spot beyond Annandale is located in the thickly Wooded Glen , beside a sparkling stream.(4 Km).

Summer Hill : The quiett and lovely suburb of summer Hill has secluded, shady walks and charming views. It was here that Gandhiji stayed on his visits to Shimla, in the elegant Georgian mansion that belonged to Rajkumari Amrit Kaur. Summer Hill is located on the Shimla - Kalka railway line.(5 Km).

Chadwick Falls : Just beyond Summer Hill is the 67 m waterfall, cascading into a deep gorge. The Falls are best seen after the monsoon.(7 Km).

Prospect Hill : A 15 minute climb from Boileauganj, Prospect Hill is another favourite walk and vantage point with breath taking views. There is a little temple to Kamna Devi on the top of the hill.(5 Km ).

Sanjauli : A serene location with delightful walks, Sanjauli is ideal for a tranquil weekend. There are fine vistas and the lights of Shimla and Chail can be seen twinkling at night. On the other side, Mashobra and Naldehra are visible. (3 Km)

Temples : Among the little temples dotted around Shimla is the ancient temple of Bihargaon - a splendid example of traditional Himachal architecture.

Just short of Shimla are the temples of Tara Devi and Sankat Mochanb. (8 Km)

Daranghati Sanctuary : This sanctuary located in the upper area of the Shimla district has an undisturbed forest area with plenty of wildlife-monal, tragopan, koklas and khalij pheaseants and musk deer, ghoral and thar. There is a network of bridle paths in the sanctuary. Visitors are advised to seek assistance from the forest staff posted at Dofda and Sarahan. The area is ideal for those who love to trek.

Way to Shimla :

Air:

Linked by air to Delhi, Chandigarh, Kangra and Kullu. The airport at Jubbarhati is 23 km from Shimla.

Rail:

It is linked by a narrow gauge line to Kalka which is connected to Delhi, Calcutta and Amritsar by broad gauge. Kalka-Shimla in 96 km and 6 hours by train but only 4 hours by a quaint rail car.

Road:

Shimla is well connected by road to most towns within the state and to all major towns in Punjab and Haryana. It is linked by bus and coach to Delhi and Chandigarh as well. Delhi is 370 km away, Chandigarh 117 km, Kalka 90 km and Ambala 166 km. Within the state, Narakanda is 64 km away, Mandi 156 km, Kullu 240 km, Manali 280 km and Dharmashala 280 km.

Bus Service:

HRTC (Himachal Road Transport Corporation) has coaches to all major towns in the area besides Chandigarh and Delhi.
